Early Childhood Dance Education: Discover. Develop. Appreciate.

"The DiscoverDance Early Childhood Program is a series of movement classes designed to introduce children to the creative and expressive world of dance. Each program offers children the opportunity to develop their natural movement ability in a multi-sensory environment. Music, movement, visuals, and props will enhance your students' love of the art form and the unique conceptual approach to dance education will provide the opportunity for cognitive growth."

Class Info

In our DiscoverDance program, it’s not about WHAT we teach to our early childhood dance students, but HOW we teach it.

We approach dance education through the exploration of the concepts of dance. Because of this, we are able to prepare students for ANY and ALL styles of dance. We do this by focusing on the essence of movement FIRST, we build a solid foundation for the skills and movements needed to progress in any style of dance.

Our classes are divided by age and then lesson plans are chosen based on the students developmental stage. Every lesson plan and class activity (warm-up, concept exploration, obstacle course, skill development, resting) is created for the appropriate stage of development. You can rest assured students are being taught a developmentally appropriate curriculum that puts the needs of the developing child at the forefront of the class objectives.

Our classes are divided as follows:

Little Wigglers (Age 2)

Little Movers (Age 3)

Little Groovers (Age 4)

FAQ'S

Can I drop my child off and come back when class is over?

Caregivers of young children must remain in the lobby for the duration of the class. We are not responsible for changing diapers/pull-ups or assisting your child to the restroom. In case of an emergency or any situation that may arise, your child may need you. Please do not leave them unattended.

Why is there a dress code?

Dress codes serve many purposes when it comes to dance education. They create a sense of community and belonging (my friends look like me, we have something in common), promote discipline (when it’s dance class, wearing my uniform is how I show my teacher I am ready to learn), and allow for full range of movement (I can move my whole body without anything getting in my way). From a teacher’s perspective, a dress code is a system put forth as part of our classroom management plan due to the fact that they eliminate distractions. Eliminating these distractions allows us to maximize our time together with learning and growing. Having a set dress code, also reduces stress at home when preparing to come to dance class (when it’s time for dance, I know exactly what to wear!).

My child is advanced for their age, can they dance with older children?

To create an ideal learning environment, age groups are taught separately to ensure proper instruction at each stage of development (just like academic schools). With less of a range of developmental stages in the classroom, the teacher is able to focus on the needs of each individual student no matter their skill set. This is a system put forth in our strategic classroom management plan that allows our time together to be used more effectively. Please do not put our staff in the position of offering preferential treatment by placing your child in a class not intended for them. We strive to treat all families equally and request respect in our decision making as we have your child’s best interests at the forefront of those decisions.
